Sarghy GTM Wizard user manual
Build a ready-to-import Google Tag Manager container in minutes: pick your tags or scan your site for a recommended setup, fill in your IDs, download the .json. Everything runs in your browser.
1. What the tool does
- Generates a complete Google Tag Manager container file (.json) from the tags you select — ready to import into your GTM account.
- Available tags: GA4 (base code, engagement, ecommerce), Google Ads (conversion linker, conversions, remarketing), Meta Pixel, and Consent Mode v2.
- Everything runs in your browser; the IDs you type never leave your device.
2. Step by step
- Optional but recommended: paste your site address and press Scan — the wizard detects the tracking you already have and your site type.
- Pick one of the three choices: Our recommendation (complete best-practice setup), Only what's missing, or select everything yourself.
- Fill in the IDs each selected tag asks for (GA4 measurement ID, Ads conversion ID, Pixel ID…). Detected values come prefilled.
- Review the summary in the download window, accept the disclaimer, and download your container .json.
3. Importing into Google Tag Manager
- In GTM: Admin → Import Container → choose the downloaded .json file.
- Pick your workspace, then choose Merge (keeps your existing tags) or Overwrite (replaces everything).
- Use Preview to test, then Publish. Your tracking is live.
4. The site scan, honestly
- The scan reads your page the way a visitor's browser receives it. Tools loaded dynamically (often through an existing GTM container) may be detected without their inner IDs — in that case the wizard checks the tag and leaves the field open for you.
- Consent Mode v2 is recommended in every setup: it cannot be detected from the outside, and EU sites need it.
- Detection works at tool level (GA4 present: yes/no), not at event level.
5. Troubleshooting
- Container blocks on save in GTM with an empty timer Interval/Limit — this affected containers downloaded before 2026-06-02. Download a fresh container (the current version arrives fully configured) or set: Interval 30000, Limit 1, condition Page URL matches RegEx .* — then save.
- Scan finds nothing on your site — some site builders block automated reads; switch to "I choose myself" and pick your tags manually.
- Not sure which IDs to use? Each field has a hint telling you exactly where to find that ID in its platform.
